Join Claire Cowling of Thrive Floristry for a full day of hands-on professional floristry, exploring autumn structures and tied designs using seasonal flowers, foliage and natural materials.
With more than 35 years’ experience in the floristry industry, three RHS Chelsea Gold Medals and a career spent creating everything from weddings and events to large-scale floral installations, Claire brings a wealth of practical knowledge, ideas and techniques to every workshop.
This is a day for florists who want to experiment, develop their skills and look at autumn floristry in a fresh way.
We’ll explore how to create strong, interesting structures and tied designs, looking at the mechanics behind them as well as the all-important shape, movement, proportion and placement of the flowers.
You’ll be creating your own designs and learning techniques that can be adapted for your own work — whether that’s weddings, events, sympathy work, seasonal commissions or everyday floristry.
On the day we'll explore:
Creating autumn structures using natural and seasonal materials
Different approaches to tied designs
Construction and mechanics, including how to make designs strong and workable
Using autumn flowers and foliage to their best advantage
Shape, movement, proportion and balance
Combining flowers with interesting natural materials
Ways of creating designs that feel natural, contemporary and considered
Ideas and techniques that you can take straight back into your own floristry
 
There will be demonstrations, plenty of hands-on creating and lots of opportunity to ask questions and discuss ideas with Claire.
This isn't about producing a picture-perfect copy of someone else's design. It's about understanding the techniques, developing your own eye and giving you the confidence to take those ideas and make them your own.
A day to flower, learn and experiment
Professional florists don't always get the opportunity to step away from the day-to-day business of running a flower shop and simply play with flowers and develop new ideas.
That's what this day is about.
Come along for a relaxed but inspiring day of professional floristry, meet other florists, share ideas and immerse yourself in beautiful autumn flowers and materials.
Suitable for professional florists and florists with a good level of experience.
 
Places are limited to ensure the day remains hands-on and that everyone has plenty of opportunity for guidance and discussion.
